Sleep associations

  1. One parent reads a book and then she asks to read it herself
  2. Lights out, kisses and one parent lays down next to her until she falls asleep
  3. No dummies, some soft toys around her pillow and a bottle of water on her bedside table.

Night waking patterns

  1. Once asleep, she wakes up anywhere between 11pm and 12am or between 3am and 4am
  2. She wakes up and comes over to our bedroom, and can very lucidly ask to sleep next to us. She often brings her water bottle and a stuffed toy with her.
  3. She can get aggressive if she is asked to go back to her bed and is very determined to climb in between us.
  4. Typically one parent would get up and sleep elsewhere
  5. Once she is with a parent in our bed, she settles very quickly and goes back to sleep, no matter how agitated she may have got a few minutes before
  6. In the morning when she wakes up she has a reason for coming over. It’s often because she couldn’t go back to sleep on her own or she has a nightmare.
  7. She says every night very earnestly that she will try her best to sleep in her bed on her own. She often apologises for coming over to our bed in the night and waking us up
