We contacted Amanda shortly after the birth of our second son as he was not latching on properly and we were struggling to breast feed in the early days.
Having previously engaged Amanda for her sleep training course for our first son, we decided to go ahead with the platinum package and some support over our first two weeks to get breast-feeding off to a start.
While the sleep training with our first son miraculously delivered us 11 hours of a peacefully sleeping son within one week, this was a very different proposition with breastfeeding but ultimately well worth it despite the very hard work that it involves with Amanda and us.
From the first day after we had our two hour clinic consultation, Amanda was able to help us start breastfeeding successfully. She had covered her plan for our son and sent the Programme that we all worked on together and first suggested we change to lose all formula feeds and address my milk supply and feeding. In fact we were able to drop all formula feeds from the first day of commencing her course!
It is very hard work and no one should be under the illusion that it is anything else, however by the end of the first week Amanda was able to guide us towards a good pattern of feeding with which we were comfortable and able to successfully manage, and crucially was more than sufficient for our son who was able to gain weight at a rapid pace despite being only 5lb 13oz at birth and us dropping all formula feeds. We moved from formula to building my supply with pumping, and gradually as the days passed we worked on getting him exclusively on the breast, first with shields and then finally nothing other than skin to skin.
We would certainly recommend Amanda’s breastfeeding course for anyone who is pregnant and preparing to feed, or struggling with early breastfeeding, and also really suggest that you persist with it when the going is very tough.
Amanda said this period passes relatively quickly although of course it doesn’t feel like it at the time. The 4th Trimester and skin to skin is crucial for baby’s comfort, and as breastfeeding is not just food like formula bottles, the babies will thrive most on response fed days and nights.
We would also recommend if necessary Amanda’s Food and Sleep Training Programme from 6 months at a later date if your baby hasn’t yet started solids and/or doesn’t sleep through the night.
