It was 2am as I sat on the floor of Hugo’s bedroom crying and begging him to go to sleep because the realisation hit me that my husband was leaving for Hong Kong the very next day and I was going to have to do this on my own, every night, for 3 months!
The sleeping habits of our smart, cheeky 2 year old Hugo had deteriorated rapidly over the previous 6 months. He wouldn’t go to sleep without us in the room, sometimes taking 2 hours before he would drop off. The rest of the night consisted of either multiple wakes requiring us to be in there, or sometimes being up for 3 or 4 hours at a time.
I was completely broken when my wonderful friend put me in touch with Amanda, who must have sensed my utter desperation because she squeezed me in at very short notice.
I went for the Diamond plan, and read and listened through all the changes and techniques I was going to be using with Amanda’s support, comforted by knowing if I could just see this through life would be so much better for everyone in the family, including our 6 year old daughter Elodie. Amanda supported me through WhatsApp and Skype, I just had to trust it would work – and it did!
We went from Night 1 – with me having to cuddle and tickle Hugo to get him to sleep over a period of 3 hours, to Night 5 doing quiet time and him falling asleep on his own before 7pm. By Night 7 he was going to sleep on his own and sleeping 12 hours – just incredible!
8 weeks on and he never fusses about nap time or bed, he loves the magic chair, he sleeps in the dark on his own for 12 hours and naps for one and a quarter hours during the day. Even sleeping at Grandma’s house and an 8 day stint in Hong Kong didn’t knock him off stride.
I feel like a new woman, but I’m even more delighted to see Hugo content and relaxed which means Elodie gets to have proper time with me in the evenings too.
It’s a triple win.
Thank you, Amanda – you’re an angel xxx
